  • About Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga is named after B.K.S. Iyengar. He was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people and is universally recognized as the world’s greatest yoga teacher. He passed away in August of 2014, at the age of 95. Mr. Iyengar practiced the yoga of Patanjali, the Eight Limbs of Yoga as described in The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Iyengar yoga has several hallmarks, one being the use of props, which Mr. Iyengar himself developed. Alignment is a key component of this style, and the poses are usually held longer than in other forms of yoga. Sequencing is another hallmark of this system – students are guided through various categories of poses systematically to bring equanimity and stability to the mind and body. Mr. Iyengar said “Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open.”
